About this cartoon: Donald Trump outdid himself for offensiveness, hinting that if Hillary Clinton became President and appointed liberal justices to the Supreme Court, gun advocates could do something about it — a strong hint of assasination as a political tool. Another firestorm erupted, Trump's poll numbers dropped, and many Republicans announced they would not support their nominee. But this incitement to violence was only one of many oblique calls to unpleasant action or to bigotry — saying inflammatory "dog whistle" things that weren't supposed to be heard openly or said out loud by politicians in mainstream parties.
